Rosalie
03:12
|
|||
I pressed my suit and cut my hair
But she won’t even know I'm there
I haven’t tried to get near to her yet
But she smells of peaches and honey I bet
I know that you’re too good for me
But I still love you Rosalie
We’ll never talk, I try not to care
For me it’s enough just to know that she’s there
Like a rainbow I can’t get close to
Without it drifting out of view
I know that you’re too good for me
But I still love you Rosalie
Though it takes all of my resistance
And resolve to keep my distance
I’ll maintain my mystery
By far the finest side of me
I know that you’re too good for me
But I still love you Rosalie
I can’t bear to think that she’d wish me ill
If she never knows me, she never will
I don’t need a friend now, not anymore
This one is safe, this one is pure
I know that you’re too good for me
But I still love you Rosalie
It hurts me that she looks so fine
Because I know she can’t be mine
The sweetest pain that I can bear
A love that she may never share
I know that you’re too good for me
But I still love you Rosalie

It was on the eve of World War Three
The first time you could clearly see
A shadow on the surface of the Moon
With it, the Moon’s face then took
On a quite beatific look
Sending everyone beside themselves with rage
Who’d be so rude as to alight
On our beloved satellite?
We all cried in horror at the sky
Accusations shot around the globe
As NASA fired up a probe
To make quite sure they hadn’t lost a spy
That was the day the aliens saved the world
The day the aliens saved the world
The day the aliens saved the world
They saved the entire human race
And disappeared without a trace
That was the day the aliens saved the world
China blamed the USA
NASA didn’t know what to say
So pointed the finger at Japan
The data from that tiny probe
Sent shock waves all around the globe
That spaceship was from another world
That moment every feuding nation
Charged by fear and indignation
Turned to her cousins for support
We found a reason to unite
To gather every nation’s might
Comrades, now, to fight the common foe
That was the day the aliens saved the world
The day the aliens saved the world
The day the aliens saved the world
They saved the entire human race
And disappeared without a trace
That was the day the aliens saved the world
We begged the ole’ U S of A
To saddle up and save the day
And use their WMD for good
Just like the good guys do in Hollywood
The Muslim asked the Israelite
To join him in his holy fight
Xenophobes all lost their fears
Vendettas festering for years
Evaporated in a single day
That was the day the aliens saved the world
The day the aliens saved the world
The day the aliens saved the world
They saved the entire human race
And disappeared without a trace
That was the day the aliens saved the world
Faced with our united force
The spacemen chose another course
And slipped peacefully into the Milky Way
Victorious, the world rejoiced
In unison, a single voice
Til the Sun pushed up to start a brand new day.
That was the day the aliens saved the world
The day the aliens saved the world
The day the aliens saved the world
They saved the entire human race
And disappeared without a trace
That was the day the aliens saved the world

I Can't Walk Away
03:43
|
|||
I tell my heart you don’t belong to me
But my dreamy eyes refuse to see
The tragic ending to my fantasy
Was written from the start
I beg myself to leave without regret
But my devotion won’t release me yet
From the sweet captivity I know is set
To end with a broken heart
Chorus
I have to leave
But I can’t walk away
Though it will break my heart one day
I need the magic of your touch
I love you too much
I stole the love that I pretend is mine
Broken Commandments 7, 8 and
Now the retribution’s coming down the line
To tear my whole world apart
Chorus
You could never do him wrong
I think I knew that all along
I have to find the strength I know
To let you go and
Chorus

I'm Gone
03:30
|
|||
It’s true that happiness
Has always eluded me
The door was always locked
And I’d stopped looking for the key
My self esteem is running low
But my tolerance is nil
You know I aim to leave
But you don’t think I have the will
I’m gone. I’m gone
Gonna find me somewhere I belong
You let me think the threshold
Was the edge of the abyss
A gaping hole more daunting
Even than your tender kiss
I know you never understood
And I don’t believe you tried
You never would have trusted me
Even if I hadn’t lied
I’m gone. I’m gone
Let bygones go by and move on
Got no one here beside me
On the bright side of the door
Strange to think that I was
So much lonelier before
It’s time for new horizons now
I’ve got that wander-lust
Gonna leave this old black cloud
For a trail of golden dust
I’m gone. I’m gone
Gonna find me somewhere I belong
I’m gone, I’m gone
You thought I’d never leave but you’re wrong

Picture Of You
02:25
|
|||
I have a picture of you in my wallet
You gave me it me I don’t know when
It was a spare, I think, from your passport
But we were always together back then
I have a picture of you in my wallet
I don’t see it but it’s still there, I’m sure
It’s been there since before we were married
I’m not sure what you gave it me for
It was true, there was nobody sitting there
And I had time for another or two
But I waited to pay until she’d gone away
And I remembered that picture of you
I took it out and put it on a napkin
It was smiling but not like you do
So I went home, with a mind to remember
To get a new picture of you

Take Me Down
06:16
|
|||
Such a tender heart I could not believe
In the brutal world I’d seen
The defence I’d offered in my stony arms
What comfort could there have been?
What an angel to see only gentle love in my eye
But the devil knows the reflection she sees is a lie
When they found her body in a pool of blood
No one doubted how she met her end
As the mob set out for the godless creature
Who had murdered his only friend
What reason had I to suspect she told me a lie?
What reason had she to care for a brute such as I?
Take me down now
Take me down now
I can’t bear any more
Take me down
I stormed over in a jealous rage
And, God forgive me, I went berserk
But I knew the instant of that fatal blow
It was all the devil’s work
I saw in her eyes, as with pain and terror they brimmed
In cruel betrayal, her innocent love was undimmed
Take me down now
Take me down now
I can’t bear any more
Take me down
I was no challenge for your evil game
My soul is yours, collect it soon
Your fire will but deliver me
From the torment of this forsaken room
Now cold as my broken angel laid on the floor
Condemned to face her betrayal for evermore

What Would I Do?
03:58
|
|||
Basking in the setting sun
Looking back on all I haven’t done
It seems I’ve lost my appetite
For the contest, for the fight
All my hopes of grand endeavour
Are, I fear, now gone forever
Ambition I’ve held before
Slipped out when you swept through that door
What would I do
If I didn’t have you
I was brought up to believe
There was nothing I could not achieve
But what on earth could I invent
To match what has been heaven sent
Would I catch your eye by chasing fame?
A stranger’s love is not the same
I could pour my heart across the land
And who but you would understand?
What would I do
If I didn’t have you
Don’t plan to measure the impression I made
By the numbers that line my homecoming parade
The perils of fame all too often have shown
If you want to be well, better not be well known
The history books tell me how lonesome I’d be
To have a whole chapter devoted to me
Why would I want my likeness carved in stone?
Standing proud forever all alone
What would I do
If I didn’t have you
The road is hard, you travel far
When you wish upon a distant star
It takes all my ingenuity
To be what you deserve of me
At home with you I’ll be content
To make you smile and make my rent
Bathed in comfort, filled with pride
Cos I’ve got my lady right by my side
What would I do
If I didn’t have you

I Forgot
02:39
|
|||
That infectious giggle
And that pretty face
I’d got used to having
Around the place
The aching memory
I can’t erase
She stole along
And swept my feet away
If a woman ever
Makes you feel that way
Make sure she’ll promise
You she’ll stay
I forgot
To make her promise
She would never leave
I guess the moment
Was never right
She looked so peaceful
In the dawning light
Such an imposition
Would be impolite
I forgot
To make her promise
She would never leave
I thought that we
Were getting on so well
That kind of talk
Would surely break the spell
When all the signs
And every indication
Said she’d be my baby
For the duration
I forgot
To make her promise
She would never leave

The Miller's Daughter
04:00
|
|||
That cottage by the river
It used to be a mill
Doesn’t look like it would scare you
But I promise that it will
In the kitchen by the water
To the turning of the wheel
The miller gave his daughter
Her lessons and her meals
The valley’s fertile farmland
Kept the miller in good health
But the merchants passing by, it’s said
Had brought him greater wealth
Many jealous tongues spoke of his gold
Though never to his face
But they’d sell their very soul to find
That fortune’s hiding place
So when a longboat ‘neath the clouded moon
Halted by the riverside
The miller snuffed out every candle
Sent his daughter up to hide
The poor man began to panic
And he ordered her to stay
Secreted in the attic
‘Til the threat had gone away
If she saw the shadows charging in
There was no one she could call
As they hauled her father over
To that loose brick in the wall
Though the screams had long subsided
The poor child had but one choice
To stay petrified with fear
‘Til she heard her father’s voice
Of course that solace never came
Though many years had passed away
And while her body’s long been dust
Her soul is trapped there ‘til this day
Now when a boat ever approaches
Down the river to the mill
The whole building is enveloped
By a damp uneasy chill
And if it stops a hush descends
But for the rushing of the stream
And it holds you ‘til it’s broken
By a terrifying scream
You can say they’re only rumours
But lies would fade away
Many families make their home there
Not many of them stay
Now the landlord, he just laughs at us
And calls it foolish talk
But, though he’d reach it quicker in his boat
When he visits there, he’ll walk

Peter The Astrophysicist
03:27
|
|||
The story of time, slowly revealing
I thought that I had got used to this feeling
Of being alone in the cold, cold night
With the inky darkness and the pin-point light
I scan the air around a planet by a faraway star
From a million years ago
For any sign of action
But I’m not getting any so..
This is the life, this is the life
Gonna samba down to Rio, find myself a wife
I know you’re important, I don’t mean to offend
But when I want to feel lighter, I try to pretend
That all of the starlight that fills up the sky
Amounts to a twinkle in an alien’s eye
This is the life, this is the life
Gonna salsa round Havana, looking for my wife
Radio waves travelled for 13 billion years
Past our ancestors by because they couldn’t read them
But they didn’t mind because they didn’t need them
We see galaxies die, long after they’re gone
And galaxy births that are still going on
And they are beautiful
They’re beautiful when we add the colour
A fiery, burning giant sun
Living fast and dying young
We can’t wait for it to go supernova
We can’t wait to have our fun
This is the life, this is the life
Gonna learn to do the tango with my lovely wife
Gonna dance the tarantella with my lovely wife

I know that you pass him daily
Yes, and he sees you smirk
At his boots and his red bandana
As you shuffle off to work
Though he now cuts a humble figure
On a good day I swear you’ll see
The faintest hint of a swagger
Of the rock star that he used to be
Spare a thought for Lance Gardino
He nearly flew to the moon
But he ended up in a tail-spin
And the dream was over too soon
He’s got a million stories
About the vinyl he sells on his stall
While his old Harley rusts in the garage
With his show posters pinned on the wall
Gather round Lance Gardino
He’s got so many stories to share
Don’t question the colourful details
Or doubt that he really was there
When he came back and tore up the Empire
All the local girls screamed with delight
And you know it wouldn’t surprise me
If you were conceived on that night
“Please welcome Lance Gardino”
Once those words sent the audience mad
‘Cos they knew that they were in store for
The best night that they’d ever have
When the crowd roared, ‘Lance Gardino’
He was the king he’d dreamed he could be
And nothing could match that ovation
‘Cept a bottle a day of Jack-D
Good for you Lance Gardino
Don’t ever regret a thing
‘Cos you got a place in the heart of
Every one that heard you sing
You can see him at The Lion on Thursdays
At the back of the barroom he sits
Raising Hell at the karaoke
Singing his own greatest hits
Hail Lance Gardino
A legend before you were born
He doesn’t need your pity
And doesn’t deserve your scorn
